Starting over at 36 wasn’t something I ever imagined I’d have to do.
At 36 years old, my family and I are facing housing struggles, financial uncertainty, and the challenges of rebuilding our lives.
There are days when I wonder how everything will work out. But even in the middle of these challenges, I’m holding on to my dreams of financial independence, having a stable home, learning to drive, owning a car, and someday welcoming a dog and a cat into my life.
I’m starting over at 36, but that doesn’t mean I’m starting without hope.

This is my journey of starting over, learning to earn extra money, growing Becoming Antoinette, and working toward financial freedom—one small step at a time..
The Reality of Starting Over
Right now, my family and I are experiencing housing instability.
We’re trying to find a place where we can finally settle down, feel comfortable, and stop worrying so much about where we’re going to live.
It’s emotionally exhausting.
When you’re dealing with housing uncertainty, it’s difficult to focus entirely on your dreams. There are everyday expenses, difficult decisions, and moments when you wonder how everything is going to work out.
Sometimes I wish I could fast-forward through this chapter of my life.
But I can’t.
What I can do is keep moving forward, even if my progress looks different from someone else’s.
I’ve learned that starting over doesn’t always mean beginning with a perfect plan or having thousands of dollars saved.
Sometimes starting over simply means deciding that your current circumstances aren’t going to determine the rest of your life.
Why Financial Independence Means So Much to Me
When I talk about wanting financial independence, I’m not talking only about becoming wealthy.
Of course, I would love to become financially successful one day.
But right now, my dreams are much simpler.
I want a stable home.
I want to have savings instead of constantly worrying about unexpected expenses.
I want to learn how to drive, get my driver’s license, and eventually buy my own car.
I want to welcome a dog and a cat into my life and give them a loving forever home.
I want to build something that belongs to me.
And most importantly, I want to reach a point where money gives me more choices instead of constantly creating stress.
Those things might sound ordinary to someone else.
But to me, they represent freedom.
Financial freedom isn’t just about having more money. It’s about having more control over the direction of my life.
I’m Starting With What I Have
One thing I’ve been learning is that you don’t always need a lot of money to begin working toward a better future.
Sometimes you have to start with the resources already available to you.
For me, that includes my phone, my laptop, an internet connection, and a willingness to learn.
I’ve been experimenting with paid survey apps such as TopSurveys and Prime Opinion to see whether I can earn a little extra money.
My goal has been to work toward earning an additional $10 to $20 a day.
I’m not going to tell you that paid surveys are an easy way to become financially independent.
They’re not.
Some days, there are good opportunities. Other days, I spend time searching for surveys only to find that I don’t qualify or that the rewards aren’t worth the effort.
It’s frustrating sometimes.
But I’m learning something important through this process.
Small beginnings still count.
If I earn an extra $5, that’s $5 I didn’t have before. If I can eventually find a reliable way to earn an additional $300 or $500 a month, that could make a meaningful difference.
I also understand that my time is valuable. I don’t want to spend hours earning pennies when I could be building something with greater long-term potential.
That’s why I’m exploring different opportunities instead of depending entirely on survey apps.
Why I’m Building Becoming Antoinette
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what I want Becoming Antoinette to become.
At first, it was easy to focus on the business side of things.
How do I get website visitors?
How do I make money blogging?
How do I create digital products?
Those are still questions I want to answer.
But I’ve realized that I want this website to be about more than making money.
I want it to be about becoming.
Becoming more confident.
Becoming more independent.
Becoming emotionally stronger.
Becoming someone who believes in her dreams, even when the journey is difficult.
And becoming financially secure enough to create a life with more freedom and possibilities.
I’m not a financial expert, and I’m not writing this from a place of having already achieved everything I want.
I’m writing from the middle of the journey.
I want to share the opportunities I try, the mistakes I make, what works, what doesn’t, and the progress I experience along the way.
I also want this to be a space for anyone who feels like they’re starting over, regardless of age or gender.
You don’t need to have everything figured out to belong here.
My Dream of Learning to Drive and Owning a Car
There’s another dream that’s especially important to me.
I want to learn how to drive.
At 36 years old, I still have that goal ahead of me.
For some people, having a driver’s license and owning a car might seem like a normal part of adulthood.
For me, it would represent something much bigger.
Independence.
The ability to go places without always depending on someone else for transportation.
The freedom to make plans, explore new places, and take another step toward the life I imagine for myself.
I would love to save enough money for driving school and eventually buy a reliable car of my own.
It’s one of the reasons I’m so interested in building additional income streams.
Every step I take financially brings me a little closer to that goal.
And when that day comes, I want to be able to look back and remember where I started.
My Dream of Having a Dog and a Cat
Another dream close to my heart is having a dog and a cat.
To some people, pets might seem like a small part of life, but to me, they represent something truly special.
I imagine having a stable home where my dog and cat are part of the family.
A home where I can enjoy everyday moments with them, care for them, and give them the love and attention they deserve.
I also have a dream of having a trained service dog who can support me with my disability and help me become more independent.
Having a service dog would mean more than companionship. It could provide practical assistance, reassurance, and greater confidence as I navigate everyday life.
Of course, I understand that bringing animals into my life is a responsibility.
They need veterinary care, food, supplies, training, and a safe place to live.
That’s why financial stability matters so much to me.
I don’t want to rush into these dreams before I’m ready.
I want to create a life where I can provide for myself, my family, and the animals I hope to welcome into my home.
Sometimes financial freedom isn’t about expensive vacations or luxury purchases. Sometimes it’s about having a safe home, a reliable car, and the unconditional love of an animal waiting for you at the end of the day.
And honestly, that sounds like a beautiful life to me.
I Don’t Want to Pretend Success Happens Overnight
Something I’ve noticed about making money online is how easy it is to feel behind.
You see people talking about earning thousands of dollars a month, building businesses, and creating what they call passive income.
Sometimes those stories are inspiring.
Other times, they make you wonder why your own progress seems so slow.
But I’m learning not to compare my beginning to someone else’s results.
Building a successful website takes time.
Creating digital products takes work.
Growing an audience requires consistency.
And not every business idea is going to work.
I don’t want to promise my readers unrealistic results, because I wouldn’t want someone making financial decisions based on promises that aren’t true.
Instead, I want to share what I’m actually experiencing.
If I try something and it doesn’t work, I’ll talk about it.
If I discover a helpful opportunity, I’ll share what I learn.
And when I accomplish a goal, whether it’s earning my first income from this blog, saving enough for driving lessons, or welcoming my first pet into my home, I want to celebrate that progress.
My Family Is One of My Biggest Reasons to Keep Going
I also want to acknowledge something important.
Even though my family and I are going through a difficult time, I’m grateful that we have one another.
My mom and my Aunt Rosie have supported my dreams, even when those dreams haven’t produced the results I hoped for yet.
They believe in me.
That means more than I can fully explain.
I want to create a better future for myself, but I also want to reach a place where I can contribute more and help create stability for the people I love.
I don’t take their support for granted.
And although I sometimes wish I were further along financially, I’m reminding myself that progress doesn’t have to happen on someone else’s timeline.
What I’m Working Toward Next
I have several goals for this new chapter of my life.
- Find stable housing with my family where we can finally feel safe, comfortable, and at home.
- Build an emergency savings fund so unexpected expenses don’t always create financial stress.
- Experiment with legitimate ways to earn extra money and discover what works for me.
- Grow Becoming Antoinette into a helpful, sustainable online business.
- Create digital products that provide genuine value to others.
- Save for driving lessons, earn my driver’s license, and eventually buy my own car.
- Welcome a dog and a cat into my life, giving them a loving, safe, and comfortable forever home.
- Work toward having a trained service dog who can help me become more independent.
- Continue growing personally and emotionally, building confidence and creating a life I’m proud of.
These dreams might seem like a lot, but they’re all connected.
I don’t just want to earn more money. I want to create a life where my family and I have a stable home, where I can drive my own car, where my pets are part of my everyday life, and where I have the financial freedom to enjoy the things that matter most to me.
I know it won’t happen overnight.
But every small step I take is a step toward the life I’m dreaming of.
I’m not just trying to make more money. I’m trying to build a life that finally feels like my own.
If You’re Starting Over Too, You’re Not Alone
Maybe you’re reading this because you’re struggling financially.
Maybe you’re trying to rebuild after a difficult relationship, a job loss, a personal setback, or a season of life you never expected.
Maybe you’re older than you thought you’d be when you finally started pursuing your dreams.
I want you to know that I understand how discouraging starting over can feel.
But I also believe that where we are today doesn’t have to be where we remain forever.
We can learn new skills.
We can try new opportunities.
We can make different decisions.
And we can take small steps toward lives that feel more secure and fulfilling.
I don’t know exactly what my future holds.
What I do know is that I’m going to keep working toward it.
Final Thoughts: This Is Only the Beginning
I’m 36 years old.
I’m facing financial struggles.
My family and I are working toward finding a stable home.
I have dreams I haven’t accomplished yet.
I want to build a successful business, learn to drive, own a car, and one day share my home with a dog and a cat.
And I’m still learning how to build the life I want.
But none of those things mean my story is over.
I’m not where I want to be, but I’m willing to start where I am.
That’s what Becoming Antoinette means to me.
It isn’t about pretending to be perfect or successful.
It’s about growth, healing, financial independence, and learning to believe that a different future is possible.
If you’re working toward a new beginning too, I hope you’ll follow along.
We might not be starting from the same place, but we can encourage each other along the way.
Here’s to starting small, dreaming bigger, and becoming who we’re meant to be.
With love,
Antoinette
